Who invented the mashup?

Let’s start with the music. According to Wikipedia, the mashup movement, creating new songs which consist entirely of parts of other songs, gained momentum in 2001 with the release of the 2 Many DJs album, by Soulwax ‘s Dewaele brothers. These kids, who are now world-famous DJ’s playing all over the world, grew up in Ghent and are now building their new recording studio there.

Ghent, the same place we are organizing iMinds 2010. As we all know, mashup is also used as a term for web applications that combine data or functionality from more than one source (like many apps in our www.inca-award.eu) and for derivative digital works containing text, audio, video and animation from other sources such as this fine example.

New business models, digital media, social networking, cloud computing…. This and much more will be discussed at iMinds. But we also leave time for some serious networking, like these two.
